WORM DRIVE 2026

Help Feed Iowa’s Wild Birds
Did you know? A single barn swallow can eat up to 60 insects per hour —about 850 insects per day or 25,000 insects per month. And that is just one bird! Nearly every bird that comes into our care eats insects. Even species you may not think of as insect-eaters often rely on insects to feed their nestlings and fledglings while they grow. In 2025 alone, the birds in our care consumed 5.5 million bugs—this included mealworms, waxworms, redworms, and crickets. 5.5 million! That’s why we hold our annual Worm Drive. Nutritious insects are a critical part of rehabilitation, helping Iowa’s wild birds heal, grow strong, develop properly, and prepare for life back in the wild. Every Gift Feeds Birds. Please consider making a contribution today! |
